To battle the $700+ an-hour fee of Chicago defense attorney, Dan Webb, Mayor Kilpatrick has set up the "The Detroit Justice Fund." The Mayor's office says "Of course, all fundraising requirements will be met" and that "There will be no set donation amounts." It is unclear if this will help Christine Beatty, or soley Kwame Kilpatrick.


One of the names tied to heading up the fundraising effort is Detroit native, and TV host, Judge Greg Mathis. Following the launch of detroitjusticefund.com Mathis released a statement denying his involvement.


"I was contacted Wednesday afternoon by Mayor Kilpatrick. He asked if I could serve on his legal defense committee. I informed him, I support due process, but I could not support him. This is the same type of deceit that has plunged our city into a deep crisis. Not only do I not support him, but I recommend he resign so the city can heal and move forward."

Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick & hit top aide, Christine Beatty, were arraigned today in Detroit's 36th District Court. They both entered a plea of not guilty, and posted $75,000.00 personal bond. A court date for preliminary examinations is set for June 9th.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy is charging Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and Christine Beatty with 12 counts of crimes steming from the the text-messaging scandal...

Count 1: Conspiracy to Obstruct Justice (Both Defendants)
Did unlawfully conspire, combine, confederate and agree together with each other and others to commit the following listed offense: Obstruction of Justice, contrary to MCL 750.157a, punishable by a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison.

Count 2: Obstruction of Justice (Both Defendants)
Did commit the crime of obstruction of justice by firing Gary Brown to willfully and corruptly hamper, obstruct and/or interfere with a criminal investigation and/or commit perjury to hide the firing of Gary Brown and/or the relationship between Christine Beatty and Mayor Kilpatrick, contrary to MCL 750.505, punishable by a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison.



Count 3: Misconduct in Office (Both Defendants)
Did commit misconduct in office, an indictable offense at common law, by firing Gary Brown to willfully and corruptly hamper obstruct and/or interfere with a criminal investigation of Mayor Kilpatrick's personal conduct/or EPU conduct and/or committing perjury to hide the firing and the true nature of their relationship, contrary to MCL 750.505, punishable by a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison.

Count 4: Misconduct in Office (Kwame M. Kilpatrick)
Did commit misconduct in office, an indictable offense at common law, as the Mayor for the City of Detroit, by authorizing the City of Detroit to enter into an 8.4 million dollar settlement of the Gary Brown/Nelthorpe and Harris litigations with the corrupt motive of preventing the release of text messages or other information evidencing that Mayor Kilpatrick and his Chief of Staff Christine Beatty lied under oath, contrary to MCL 750.505, punishable by a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison.

Count 5: Perjury - Court Proceeding (Kwame M. Kilpatrick)
Did, being lawfully required to depose the truth as a witness in a jury trial, a court proceeding in the case of Gary Brown and Harold Nelthorpe v. Kwame M. Kilpatrick and City of Detroit, Case No. 03-317557-NZ, the case being a civil lawsuit before the Honorable Michael J. Count 9: Perjury - Other than Court Proceeding (Kwame M. Kilpatrick)
Did, being a person of whom an oath was required by law, willfully swear falsely before Sheila D. Rice, a Notary Public within the County of Wayne, on June 26, 2003 as to the circumstances surrounding the "un-appointment" of Gary Brown, contrary to MCL 750.423, punishable by a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

Count 10: Perjury- Other than Court Proceeding (Kwame M. Kilpatrick)
Did, being a person of whom an oath was required by law, willfully swear falsely before Sheila D. Rice, a Notary Public within the County of Wayne, on October 11, 2004 as to the circumstances surrounding the "un-appointment" of Gary Brown, contrary to MCL 750.423, punishable by a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

Count 11: Perjury - Other than Court Proceeding (Christine Beatty)
Did, being a person of whom an oath was required by law, willfully swear falsely before Sheila D. Rice, a Notary Public within the County of Wayne, on December 9, 2003 that she did not know Gary Brown was investigating the Manoogian Mansion party prior to his un-appointment and /or other circumstances surrounding the termination of Gary Brown, contrary to MCL 750.423, punishable by a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

Count 12: Perjury - Other than Court Proceeding (Christine Beatty)
Did, being a person of whom an oath was required by law, willfully swear falsely before Sheila D. Rice, a Notary Public within the County of Wayne, on December 9, 2003 that she was not aware of the Mayor’s philandering, contrary to MCL 750.423, punishable by a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.


Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy asked this morning for Kilpatrick & Beatty to turn themselves in by 7am Tuesday. They both did so around 4pm Monday - Along with being fingerprinted by the Wayne County Sherif's department.

Wednesday morning It was all over the news... Who was this mystery woman that delivered flowers - in a limo - to the Manoogian Mansion?

Well, it was our Super Fabulous Gay Intern Uly! We sent him by with some flowers and card wishing him the best as Mayor Kilpatrick was inside preparing for his public address to the City of Detroit.

We didn't mean to create such a buzz, but as Uly exited the limo, cameras were all over him. In fact, just after her left the porch, a Chevy Caprice was pulling out of the garage with 2 children in side. This was most likely the Mayor's boys headed for school. Just after the car passed, a member of the Mayor's security team came from around the house and approached Uly & took the care package.

Thursday morning, body language expert Greg Hartley joined us on the phone. Greg has published a few books on how to spot a liar! He analyzed Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's apology to the city of Detroit. His insite was unreal.

Greg pointed out many spots in the speech where it was clear Kwame was nervous, and not telling the truth. He also had some comments on Carlita's appearance as she talked to the camera.

When news broke of Mayor Kilpatrick's text message scandal, it came to light that they often escaped to room #311 at the Marriott Residence Inn in Madison Heights. We had Duvall & Kevin re-enact the extramarital mayoral affair... In the very same room!

The Detroit News broke the story along with WXYZ investigators last night... The mayor was out of town in a Florida home just outside of Tallahassee. He purchased  the vacation home last year. Above, the Kilpatrick family was seen packing up a rental car, headed back to Detroit. And most recently, the home has been put up for sale, the asking price: $444,900.00

While on the stand for the wrongful termination whistleblower lawsuit over the summer, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and chief of staff Christine Beatty both said that there were never any inappropriate text messages exchanged between the two.

The Free Press has busted this case wide open, they did not reveal their source, Jim Schaefer, M.L. Elrick & staff have obtained transcripts of text messages between the two that are clearly sexual in nature. On top of the embarrassment, this opens up Kilpatrick and Beatty for perjury charges, punishable by up to 15 years in prison. Also, Mayor Kilpatrick was married to wife Carlita at the time. Beatty was married at the time as well, she is now single.

The Free Press examined about 14,000 text messages from Beatty's pager that was issued by the city to her. The messages in questions are about 5-years-old.

Kilpatrick wrote on Oct. 3, 2002, Kilpatrick wrote: "I'm madly in love with you"

"I hope you feel that way for a long time," Beatty replied.

"In case you haven't noticed, I am madly in love with you, too!"

On Oct. 16, 2002, Kilpatrick sent Beatty: "I've been dreaming all day about having you all to myself for 3 days. Relaxing, laughing, talking, sleeping and making love."

Promptly, Kilpatrick issued a statement Wednesday night:
"The messages reflect a very difficult period in my personal life. It is profoundly embarrassing to have these extremely private messages now displayed in such a public manner. My wife and I worked our way through these intensely personal issues years ago. I would now ask that the public and the media respect the privacy of my wife and children and of Christine Beatty and her children at this deeply painful moment for our families."
